The core of the Arctic ecosystem is an area of large permanently frozen sheets of ice and cold arctic water.
Animals in the arctic region include whales, fish, mussels, squid, seals penguins, polar bears, arctic foxes, crabs, walruses and an assortment of other sea creatures and birds. These animals are uniquely adapted to live in this cold environment. While plants are not visibly noticeable in the region, they are present in the form of a varied of moss, short grass, some evergreen plants, some berries and rarely, small flowers. One major plant in this region is found in the sea. Plankton is a small plant that lives in the water and is too small to see with just our eyes. Many sea creatures feed on plankton.
